On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 22nd International Pig Veterinary Society Congress (IPVS 2012), it is our great pleasure to welcome you to Jeju, Korea. The Congress will be held at the Jeju International Convention Center from June 10 to 13, 2012.
The Congress will be held under the theme of "Happy Pigs - Healthy People" and will consist of keynote lectures, satellite symposia, oral presentations, poster sessions, social programs, and a variety of tour programs. Pork consumption in the Asian region is expected to increase and in order to meet the growing needs of pork consumers, we must strive to grow our industry while at the same time improve pig health and produce safe pork. The Organizing Committee is designing the best possible programs including high quality scientific sessions that will provide deeper knowledge and open new perspectives on the swine industry. The program will cover every aspect of the swine industry including economically important diseases, new and exotic diseases, production management, feed and nutrition, genetics, welfare, pork safety, etc.
Asia has the highest population of pigs in the world and the swine industry is continuously growing and improving. The IPVS congress, however, was held only once in Asia, in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1994. The Korean Association of Swine Veterinarians (KASV) is excited to be given this opportunity to host the congress once again in Asia. Although, the land size of South Korea is small, the country has a very active swine industry. South Korea has witnessed spectacular growth in the economy over the past two decades which has allowed the swine industry to thrive. We strongly believe that the IPVS 2012 will be a successful event.
The island of Jeju has been designated as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and is the heart of clean swine production area in Korea. Not only does the island offer world - class conference facilities, but it also provides a variety of natural and cultural experiences. Whether you hike to the summit of Mount Hallasan or shop at the Jeju Folk Arts Complex, we are certain that you and your family will have a safe and enjoyable experience, which will make IPVS 2012 the most memorable.
The convention center (ICC JEJU) is located within the most popular tourist complex, with a view of the cobalt - blue Pacific Ocean stretching to the south and the towering Mount Hallasan commanding the view to the north. With many of the best tourist sites on the island within easy access, this resort-style convention center is fully equipped for a large international meeting.
The Organizing Committee is devoting its utmost effort to prepare a most meaningful meeting. We have no doubt that IPVS 2012 will make a positive contribution to the development of the swine industry and as such, urge the professional swine societies in your countries to help us make IPVS 2012 a great success.
We look forward to seeing you in Jeju, Korea!
